Well I own all new world Cichlids right now. So I thought I would post this in the African forum to be fair :good: . Could a mix between African and new world cichlids be done? Iv been flirting with the idea of keeping kribs and jewel cichlids in the same tank. I dont think it would work becouse of the range in temprament between the two. Iv never owned Kribs but I hear that they are of the more peacefull cichlids. Jewels (HemiChromis) can be extremely territorial at times. But what if I had two female jewels and six to eight kribs? could this be possible or not? what do you guys think?

If you wanted to try you would have to pick fish that had the same diet and required the same water parameters. As far as the jewl cichlid if i remeber correctly there is an african and a central american jewl. So depending on whitch one you use it might just work.

Do some quick searching on the internet for Old World cichlids. Most of them require much higher PH levels then New World Cichlids do. Temperatures are usually in the same range so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

Take a Jack Dempsey for example, requirments are roughly the same as Mbunas so you can mix them together. I did and my tank couldn't be a happier one :)
