Hi guys,
As many of you know, I've been vacillating on which low-budget substrate to use for the new 125g. My top two are either trying to get my hands on red flint sand (should be doable since it's mined one state west), or going with bdbs. What I don't like about light substrates is that over time, you get that black growth in between the glass and your sand layer, and i worry about scratching my glass if I try to clean it off. With BDBS it wouldn't be as visible, but BDBS is almost unnaturally black. I'm wondering what would happen if I mixed the two? A darker color would hide muck better, but would it just look odd? Has anyone tried mixing BDBS with sand? How did it come out? What are your thoughts?
