Ive always loved the beauty of the african cichlids, and am tempted to get some. Would they do well in an aquarium with a bunch of different fish species, or are they best left with there own kind?

I dont know the names of them, but I saw them at Petco and they were yellow, and some where orange, and some where blue. (sorry im not being to specific  )

sounds like you mean mbuna from lake malawi, don't buy any if the lfs can't tell you specific species, and read the pinned topic up at the top to find out what water parameters they need.
any more questions just ask!!

do a google search, type in African cichlids and then click on the image tab come back here and post the pics of the fish you seen and also we need to know what fish are in your tank.

I mix fish from lake malawi and tanganyika and they look awesome...just make sure you have enough space for them....

Definately sound like Mbuna, zebra's probably. Definately need to be in a species tank, very few other fish can live with them, normally certain catfish like synodontis.

Loaches and plecos could live with them too and some catfish species....
