I am in the middle of my cycle, carefully with fish and the last few days i have had to clean the gravel and do some general maintenence on the tank as its been running six weeks and was looking a bit sorry for itself. My problem is, the last few days due to the ammonia being 3-4 and nitrite being 1-2, i have had to do a couple of large water changes to get the levels back down. I have been left with misty water. I dont think its a bacterial bloom as i have had a few of those already and this doesnt look the same. The water is very hazy and wont clear. I have done evrything correct, when i cleaned the filter i was very carefull not to be too clean, i cleaned out the media in tank water that i had siphoned off, put it all back and everything is running normally. I just dont get where this misty haze is coming from and why it hasnt gone! Help! GRJ

You are adding a dechloronator correct? I'm guessing it is debrie released into the water from the recent gravel vacs. If it happens to be greenish in color it is an algae bloom. Also when cycling a tank I would'nt clean the filter media, as that is just washing away the bacteria you are trying to grow.

Yeah, i am adding stress coat. I was told to give the filter a clean as my amonia kept spiking and that is why the major gravel vac! Its not a green colour. It is only since the gravel vac so i thought it was debris. How long, ball park, will it take to clear do you think? :good: GRJ

I have that with one of my tanks. I'm not sure what causes it, but it generally goes away after a day or two and my fish seems no worse for the wear. (He's a Betta, so I keep him alone.)

Yes, if it's not green I wouldn't worry. Even after three years, my tank occasionally does this, not a great deal, but just enough to be noticable. It could just be the filter spitting out some gunk that got left behind.
