Missing Fish

Hi,

Just joined the forum. Need some advice. I introduced a clown loach into my community several weeks ago and it used to do many 'disappearing acts' for a few days but eventually returned. Now it has disappeared completely along with a tetra. Does anyone have any reasons why fish suddenly disappear. I monitor the tank regulary and saw no evidence of disease or death.

Clown loaches are known (I think) for hiding in really small spots, try carefully moving a few things about the tank...

What size is your tank, what filtration do you have and what are your tank stats?

60litres Fluval 2 filter
2 neons, 3 danios, 3 harlequins, 2 corys, 1 guppy, 1 sucker/algae eater.

Hi. I thought one of my Pygmys had gone missing! I only ever saw 6 ( I have 7) so eventually assumed one had died and the others had eaten it but last night there they were, all 7 of them!

It's possible your Neon died and got eaten I'm afraid. It might be stress coz Neons should be in groups of at least 6, as should the Harlequins, Corys and I think the Danios (not sure on them though).

I expect your Clown Loach is still there though as they're not small and even if it died you'd have seen it. Maybe it's just hiding?

Check behind the filter or in any ornaments you may have!

Just so you are aware, you should be keeping clown loaches in groups. Singles are not ideal.

I thought clowns should also be kept in a much bigger aquarium than 60?

They should be kept in a tank much bigger, i keep a group of 5 in a 400l
