ok so a friend of mine who is new to this wonderful hobby recently purchased a domino damselfish to liven up his 29 gal. already home to a clownfish, watchman goby, a few turbo snails and a hermit crab. I believe his first mistake may have been adding the damsel in the first place because from what I understand from doing a little research after the fact is that the damsel and clown are related and are both territorial. Anyway the slightly smaller damsel went missing and I suspect the clownfish to be the culprit although there is no trace of any remains in the tank or filter to indicate this is what took place. The only thing I have to go on is that I have seen the clown act aggressively towards the goby and can only assume the same occured with the damsel only he may have been killed and eaten. Anyone else have any idea if is what may have happened? Anyone have any similar experiences/mistakes with these two fish?

Well, you're right, Damsels and Clownfish are relatively closely related. Close enough so that they will beat up each other. Usually the more established individual (in this case the clown) wins out when a new addition is made. If you're wondering where the body went... Well, marine systems are full of scavenging organisms, and bodies can and do get eaten and dissapear in a matter of hours. Easy for it to happen when someone has gone off to work/school or even just slept for the night.

One last suggestion, have you checked the carpet around the tank just in case ;)
