just thought I'd share this with you all
for the last 2 years I have had, what I thought were 'true' SAEs
Crossocheilus siamensis.
however I have discovered in the last week that they are not
SAEs at all but Stonelapping minnows Garra cambodgiensis

how could this be misidentified for so long you ask.
well I belive that they have become full adults now and have stated to
show thier lipstick markings, which wern't there before and all thier fins
have gone a very nice shade of yellow including thier pectorial fins.
they could be 'false SAEs Epalzeorhynchus sp then,
no because 'false' SAEs do not have yellow pectorial fins.

I guess the point of this post is to say
fish keeping is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get :p
seriously the point is, no matter how sure of something you are in this hooby
nature has a way of proving you wrong.

At least you're man enough to admit to a mistake
I've heard about guys like you but never really believed they existed! :p

Garras and SAE's can usually be distinguished by their mouths even at a young age.Garras tend to have a much blunter mouth almost like a CAE but with tiny barbles whereas SAE's have pointed snouts and longer barbles are are more slender than the chunkier garras. Are you sure you dont have "Flying Foxes" (Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus) as they have yellow pectoral fins

you're right they do have yellow fns but they don't have red/pink lips
these fish do. trust me they have been confirmed as being stonelapping minnows

can't find a befor pic but here is one of now
