I thought I would share my story of my girl's miraculous recovery. So, I noticed my female Betta was lying on the bottom of my tank, obviously sick. I isolated her in her own tank. She wouldn't eat or swim, but would just lay there until I tapped on the tank and she would swim around a bit and then go back to laying on the bottom. Her eyes started to bulge and her scales were visibly protruding. I feared she had dropsy. After reading that even with treatment the success rate is slim, I was expecting her to die. I bought some medicated food to try to help, but they would just float around since she wouldn't eat anything. So, after a few days I changed her water. I just wanted her to be comfortable. My mother-in-law offered to flush her, but I didn't have the heart. About a week later I noticed her bulging eyes weren't so large anymore and she wasn't laying around anymore. Rather, she would just float at the top without moving. A few days later she would swim around a little more, eyes even smaller. I tried feeding her without much success. After a few more days she seemed fine, so I decided to put her back in the community tank. She swam around normally and was eating just fine now. I was nothing short of amazed at her recovery. I had already told my kids she was going to die and I was already shopping around for a replacement. I'm so happy that she's fine now!

Great read, I'm glad you love your fish enough to not flush them! :good:

You shouldn't give in until the end, congratulations! :hyper:

Thanks!
Yeah, I was happy as heck that she will "die another day". LOL! She's been a good fish. She's hasn't been hostile to any other fish in the community, which is what I was worried about with the Bettas and she has lots of personality.

that sounds alot like one of my stories except my betta had terrible swimmers bladder. :)

YEH! I've got a similar problem with mine at the moment. A female stripped my male of all his fins. I separated him but he has stopped eating and just floats at the top. :-(

Hang in there, keep your water conditions as near to perfect as possible and hope for the best!
