Years ago when i was still living in philly i had a freshwater tank.

originaly i had all types of freshwater store bought fish, but:

1) One time we went fishing in atlantic city and had minnows left over, so i put the fifteen or so minnows into the tank.
2) One time we went fishing in the Skukill river, I found fiftteen or so shrimp, put them into the tank.
3) One time we went fishing in the Delaware river, I caught a couple perches, put them in the tank.
4) One time we went fishing in the Delaware river, I caught a juvenile green eel, about a foot long, put it into the tank.
5) One time i bought some type of ghostly white frog thing, originaly i had it housed seperatly, but i put it into the tank.
6) One time i bought a beta, originaly had it housed seperatly but that stupid bowl it came with just didn't seem practical at all, so i put it into the tank.

what i ended up with, was the greatest thing ever. they all got along, and lived long. The minnows swam around together, and surprisingly looked brilliant, they were like a real school. The shrimp hung out at the bottom and did whatever. The perches did whatever. The green eel was friggin great, it didn't eat any of the Fish, and it would swim up the filter waterfall and just hang out in the filter. The frog did whatever. And the betta did whatever.

My questions are:

why do you think all these things got along?

can i have minnows in a satwater tank?

COOL,
I dont think you can keep minnows in a SW aquarium.
I would wait for a higher member like ski to answer

Well, I'm not Ski, but I'll give it a whack :p

No minnow (cyprinid, I assume) that I am aware of can be aclimated to full saltwater. A few, like goldfish, do well in brackish, but cannot survive in full salt for very long.

You might have luck with the Eel, though. Most true Eels can tolerate saltwater.

Yeah, the eel MIGHT live but all the rest would not. There's a reason they were in the Delware River and not the ocean :hey:. Most freshwater organisms lack the kidneys to survive in salt and vice versa
