Please bear with me, and please offer up any suggestions. My husband recently got a 20g tank, and since he's a fishing guide, thought it would be a good idea to try to keep shiner minnows so he wouldn't have to buy new minnows with every new trip. A sound theory, but I just took a look at the tank and it's pretty disgusting.

He put down a sand substrate (coarse, not play sand) and a couple of live plants. It's not heated at sits at about 64º F. The disgusting part is that there seems to be a coating of slime on the sides of the tank.

What do you suppose is causing this? Just the type of fish in there? I don't think just a water change will help much. Any suggestions?

I don't know what the stats are. Haven't time to do them this minute, but will post them in an hour or so. Any help appreciated.

What colour is the slime? is it coating on the tank? this happens on newly set up tanks...

take a razor blade to the glass, worked for me :good:

It's clear. And yes, it's a new tank, but we used established media to start with.

Nowt to worry about, like fishy said, get a razor to it if you dont like it,although it will go eventually

So if I razor it off, will it just float around and eventually get caught up in the filter?
