Minnow breeding

What species of fish are you talking about?
What do you mean by carry the eggs?

Sorry, White Cloud Mountain minnows.
I have two heavy females. One is very large.
They both look gravid, and I am asking how long will it be before she releases the eggs for the males to fertilize.
I have raised them from fry and this is the first time around I've seen the heavy females and breeding behavior in the group.
I want to make sure the females are, in fact gravid and not just bloated, constipated, or sick. Or if there might be complications because this is their first time.
I have 4m 2f in the group.

Finally. The most important question ever asked on here! I’m gagging* for some Long Fin WCMMs. Just can’t find em. Anyone?

* What’s the betting that doesn’t carry across the Atlantic?

I had em back in the 90s. Not Long Fins though.
Lovely fish, dirt cheap and obtainable everywhere. I’ve read they get on great with everyone and Paradise Fish never bother them. I dunno if they’re from the same part of China and it’s an inherited thing but my Paradise fish back then was almost friendly with them whereas he hated Neons and just about tolerated everyone else. A terribly advised by LFS set up that was.
Don’t like the gold ones at all, they look weird.

probably carrying eggs if you want to control the spawnings I would separate male and female for about a week set up a small tank/ container with some plant /java moss other methods that can be used are marbles or a mesh net for the eggs to fall through. use the same tank water pick out your best pair place them in the tank in the evening and the change in environment will trigger them spawning usually spawn within 24-hours if not leave for a further 24-hours
there was a pair of long fin variety for sale on eBay I think it was £10 a pair plus £20 postage sweet Knowle Aquatics may still have them for sale i think at £4.95 each they charge postage of £20

Oh they are pretty. My favourite fish shop stocks them

It's up to the males to drive the females and get them to spawn. If conditions are good that will happen when it happens. You can encourage them by keep them in cold/ cool water for a month then raising the temperature to 24C. They should breed then.

Have lots of plants in the tank, do big daily water changes, have soft water with a GH below 150ppm, and offer them some mozzie larvae. They should do the rest. If that doesn't work, move the males into a separate tank for 5 days then put them back in with the females.

I put 10 fish in a 200 liter tank bred all summer. Sold 200 back to the LFS. These fish spawn continually un like a lot of fish that spawn once that's it, these guys will lay a few eggs everyday when conditions are right. Fry swim on the surface, Adults swim low in tank, The adults don't eat the babies. Lots and Lots of plant. They will be great. Feed egg yoke, Fry grow super fast.
