Hi all,

I own 3 freshwater tanks, (SEE BELOW), and am thinking about setting up a marine one day, but as theyre so expensive and im only 13, i was wondering what the absolute minimum size for a tank would be. Just enough for an anenome and a pair of clowns and maybe a shrimp or starfish. Cheers :good:

:hi: to the salty side

Go have a read of Harry' journel, he is also 13 yrs old. IMO he chose a really good first time tank the juwel 125 litres.

You could keep Bubble tip anemone in a tank that size with t5 lighting, but you would have to realise that the nem can grow to about 12 inches across in the space of a year, so would mean that really you would only have space for the nem and your clowns, no other corals. You can only add a nem after the tank is mature, so you would be waiting for approx 6 to 8 months. However, if you are just looking for Clowns hosting and lets face it, many of us set up our first tank because of this (me included) then you might like to know that clowns will host with many things/corals :good:

here is a link to my journal http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/314253-juwel-rio-125-marine-reef/
tbh there are lots of nice corals some even more nicer than an anemones out there you can buy. tropical tanks are wonderful but when you get into marine aquariums you find that tropical tanks are boring.

But how did you get so much money for it harry. I could set up my 3 tanks, 4 times over before i get anywhere near the cost of a marine tank.

well i get pocket money not a lot £10 a month and my grandad gives me jobs to do and i get paid lots of money. from just a few hours work i got £15 :good: but the good thing about marine is you can take it nice and slow. well the only reason i take it slow is because every thing costs a lot of money lol. its only the first month that is very expensive :good:

sorry just remembered you are from NZ so £10 would be about 20d and £15 would be about 30d

mmk lol thanks. in a cuple of years ill get a job and hopefully start a nice 1. Thanks for the help m8
