:-( I have been treating my molly fry for about 3 weeks with pimafix and melafix. They are getting better, but it is going sooo slow! Now I have had to add my 3 adult mollies, 3 glowfish and 2 unidentified algae eaters to the sick tank. The last 2 were due to a crisis at my sisters. The others came from a nitrite spike that wouldn't give up in my 29g.
Mouth and body fungus again. It just never ends.

The question is since what I was using wasn't getting very far I got some Maroxy. I was told that should work. I was reading that paper that comes with it, and it said to treat for sec. bacterial infections at the same time. Really??
Should I? If not how long do I filter and all before starting maroxy? If I should use aother med with maroxy can I use pimafix or melafix with it? Also there is salt in the water... does that matter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to do something very soon. I do not want to lose all my fish.

Info needed quickly please!!
Any one?

I started filtering out the other meds yesterday. I really need to know how to do this so I can get them started on the other meds as soon as possible.
I want to do it right though so I don't lose any more fish due to my lack of knowledge. :/

Someone please tell me the steps for swapping from one med to another safely, and if maroxy can be used along with pimafix or melafix. If not what should I do?

Please :-(

Sorry I missed this first time round. A water change and then running carbon in your filter for 24 hours should clear the pimafix so you can start with the maraxyn. As far as I know you can run melafix with that, and salt should do no harm.

I am almost at 24 hours now. That is good. I saw a post where someone said clout is good for this stuff. Would that work better than the maroxy and melafix? I have clout too, but I have never used it? What would be best to use?
I want to use which ever will get them better quicker. The problem is I have never used either of these? So which would be better? I would like to be able to start treatment tonight?
Also should I do a water change? How big?
Thank you so much!
Amanda

 Someone? Anyone?

Does anyone know about these meds? I just need to know which one or combination of meds to use so I can get it in there.

Please... :-(

Please take what I say with a grain of salt, since I am no livebearer expert. I’ve been dealing with mainly bettas for the last year, and have just started myself with Platys.

However you mentioned mouth fungus. Most of the time this is a bacterial infection that is misdiagnosed. I have seen this in Bettas and have used Maracyn II to treat it affectively. Please look here and search for the words “mouth fungusâ€￾ to see what I’m talking about. http://www.fishpalace.org/Disease.html

When I did treat this I only used this medicine and nothing else. Once the treatment was done / completed I used a bit of salt to help heal any wounds they had.

I do not know how well other medicines mix together so do not feel comfortable commenting on it. I do wish you little fishes the best of luck though.

Columnaris often imitates fungus. Maroxy will work on fungus, but there's a good chance that it's columnaris, which is much more common. Maracyn I & II will work for columnaris. I'm pretty sure this can be used along with Maroxy, it's a little late for me to go rummaging through the fishroom.

Clout is a strong med, something that may not be the best choice for fry. It may be best to start with a half dose with fry. You have to remember that all meds are a poison to some life form or another. The trick is finding the best balance between effectively treating the ailment without causing harm to the fish. Antibiotics work by causing cell damage to bacteria, too much causes cell damage to the fish. Too little doesn't cause enough damage to the bacteria to allow the natural defenses of the fish to take over. I would not use Clout along with the Maroxy on fry.

Water changes are the best med for sick fish, I do 50% daily with most all meds, and remedicate depending on the medication being used. When using the Mardell products I do the 50% daily thing.

:-( Thank you for posting. I guess I had just started doing a water change when you did it. I did do 50% because I had some nitrites showing. As I was doing that I found that I have lost one of my fry :-( :-(
I am now down to 3. 1 male, 1 female, and 1 not quite big enough to be sure yet. The one I lost was a female. :-( I know a woman my age shouldn't be so upset about a fish, but here I sit at almost 2:30am crying for her.
I don't have the maracyn I or II. I only have pimafix, melafix, maroxy, clout, and quick cure. Anything else I would have to order, and it would take a week to get. There is no lfs where I am from. If this were all you had to work with what would you do?
 :-(

I guess for now I will continue with pimafix and melafix until I have time to catch someone so I can figure out which would work best with what I have on hand. I looked at that site... probably is bacterial.
I will check back in when I get home. I have a pretty rough day ahead... timing huh?
Thanks again...

I really wish I could help, but I have very little experience of medications (thankfully), and particularly of those in the US. The only alternative to pimafix I have used for bacterial infections is Interpet anti-bacterial, and I don't know if that is any better than the stuff you have. All I can say is Melafix is a very weak natural oil remedy that can probably be used safely with most other medications, it does not actually deal with the bacteria (unlike pimafix) but acts as a general tonic and healer.

Thank you.
Maybe by the time I get back from the funeral in the morning someone that knows about these meds will have posted something. There has to be someone on here that knows about them. Until then I will just keep trying with what I was doing. It isn't doing much, but it is better than nothing.
Tolak told me some stuff, but also kind of left me not sure what to do. Maybe he will come back and say you need to do this...
or someone else that knows these meds that I have.
Thank you to everyone on here that has tried to help me. I appreciate it more than you know.
Amanda ;)

Clout is for treating parasite & protizoan problems. The closest thing you have to an anti-biotic is the Pimafix. I would dose with Pimafix, with daily 50% water changes, and order antibiotics 2nd day air. The shipping will cost around $22, the meds are around $20. Check out http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/NavR...m?N=2004+113021

Ordering & shipping help is on the bottom, you could have it shipped next day air for a few dollars more.

:D Thank You :D
I knew you would be back eventually.
Sorry... with the fish and all the other stuff hitting all at the same time, I seem to be having some difficulty thinking streight.
I do get most of my supplies from them, but I am still waiting for my prime. I ordered a week ago. I got my new hood, heater, foods, and everything else. They just always leave out what I was really after.
I like them though. I think the Fed Ex man has learned my address by heart
I will get it ordered as soon as possible.
Thanks Again. You have helped me with so many problems in such a short period of time. (and alot of others) ;)
