I have a 10 gallon tank *sad I know* stocked with a beta, 2 pineapple platies, and 3 guppies. I'm having more problems with this tank then I know what to do with.. . currently my biggest worry is it looks like my plants *both live and plastic* are mildewing.

I'm not sure what my live plants are they were listed as dwarf lilies, but they dont look like any pics I've seen. anyway it started with a white *flowering* plastic cloth plant, it had very definite mildew spots on the white flowers, so I took it out. a month later my green leafy plastic fiber plants started getting mildew spots, took them out. Now my live plant leaves *they float on the top of the water* have blk and white mildew/mold looking stuff on them.

My fish dont seem to care, they are doing fine. but I REALLY dont know what to do and I dont want it to start to mess with my fish.

Currently I'm having a horrible time with alge *my pleco was a fin ripper so he had to go, I'm going to get some OTO catfish when the mildew is gone* I dont keep the light on other then an hour around the time I feed them, but my living room wall is a big window so light is a problem I tried putting up a screen but its not working as well as hoped.

I'm probably not explaining this well so if you have an subjections or questions let me know

thanks

It's some kind of algae for sure. Is your tank getting direct sun, or is the room just well-lit? Direct sun could be a problem. A nice bright room probably isn't too blame. Can you post a photo of the plant that may or may not be a lily? Maybe we can identify it and see what it's light needs are.

Otos are great for eating algae; I wouldn't bother trying to clear this up before putting them in the tank. However, they should be kept in groups of at least three, and that would be pushing the limits of what you can put in a 10 gallon tank. Would you consider getting rid of the three guppies? Guppies and betas are notoriosly bad tankmates anyway, so you'd be solving two problems at once.
