well i bought a red devil cichlid today, stupid me i didnt do the reasearch on it until AFTER i bought it and put it in the tank. so it's in there with other mbuna (yellow lab, auratus, johanni, milomo, insignis, venutus, red empress, fire mouth, socolofi, acei, kenyi, bumble bee, zebra oblaque). its not to big yet, only about 2 inches. how long do you think i have before that thing goes crazy and starts pickin my fish off? as of right now it's not messing with anyone at all. he's about the same size as half the fish, there are a couple fish that are a bit smaller then him

At that size, the RD will probably struggle to cope with the Mbuna in your tank and may suffer. However if it survives to adulthood - it will probably finish off most of your tank i'm afraid, Red Devil is a very apt common name for this species. :/

The Firemouth is likely to struggle even more with Mbuna aggression but will also outgrow them substancially if it survives and potentially turn the tables. Mixing NW cichlids and Africans is generally a very bad idea, especially when it involves large highly agressive species like RD's - sorry!

well as of right now the insignis is not liking the red devil in the least bit. so i re arrnaged the tank. the firemouth seems to be doing fine with the others for right now. i didnt even know those two were from another lake. if anything maybe i'll just return them or something.

Not even just from another lake but a completely different continent!!

yea didnt realize. i returned the fish to the petstore and i got another venutus and a yellow lab. so i have two of each in the tank now. they are getting alot gret now, no fighting once again :) thanks for the replies
