will they be o.k in a pH of 7.5?
if so,can i put them straight in or do i accustom them to the water first?

thanks in advance :D

Yes, they should be fine in pH 7.5, especially if you're getting them from a local source (as opposed to online). I know my lfs has the same water params as I do here at the house, so anything I get from them will be acclimatised to my water.

That said, rams are particularly sensitive fish and a longer acclimitisation period (drip method) would probably be beneficial anyway.

if i were you i would add plenty of driftwood and some peat to my filter to lower the ph to at least neutral range...they will live in 7.5 fine, but really prefer a (at least) slightly acidic environment..

every fish should be acclimated to the new conditions as opposed to being plopped in...why would it be any different for rams?

ok i got a pair, they have come from a pH of 6.7, how do i accustome them to my pH of 7.5?

thanks in advance :D

just like you would anyfish! float them for 15 minutes! then pour half the water out (not the fish  ) then put a 1/2 cup of water into the bag then pour another cup then another until the bag is full! then dump half the water out (Again not the fish  ) and repeat this process about 4 times and after the bag is ful for the fith time dump half out again then carefully net them out :)

does any agree?

ps i do this everytime i get a new fish :p

i heard you have to accustome them for two hours because of their sensitivity

Get a small bucket (like 3 gallons or so)... carefully dump the fish and water into the bucket.

Get some new air line tubing and tie a loose knot near one of the ends. Place the end with the knot into the bucket. The other end (no knot) into your tank.

Allow the water from your tank to slowly drip into the bucket. Once the bucket is near full, then check it's pH to see if it's equal to your tank's pH. If it's at your pH, then you are fine to release them into your tank (discard the bucket water completely).

Adjust the tightness of the knot to control how fast the water drips into the bucket. Make sure it's slow... and this should take 2-3 hours for a proper careful acclimitization.

Slow and steady is much better for these delicate fish.

the drip method is good...but you dont EVER want to acclimate a fish for 2 hours while still in the bag IMO, or they will stress and die...a bucket with plenty of oxygenation is the best bet

thanks every1,

i've put them into the tank (after acclimating them in the bucket)and they seem to be fine.

thanks for all your help :D
