This tank has been giving me a run for money. Started this up Feb 14th and keeps clouding up but not fully cycle. I switched out the Marineland 200 Filter with a Fluval 306 Canister. Tank is still cloudy from bloom, and Nitrites are high right now as cycling is getting finally closer to finishing.

My issue isnt with the water, but with my airstone. Every stone i try i get microbubbles. I know its not an issue but for me its irritating and im not sure if its there due to cycling or not. As you can see in the video, Each time the bubbles pop at surface, microbubbles form and go all over the tank, and the fluval sucks them up and once a day or so i get bubbles swishing out of the filter.

Is there an explination to this, Ive had the bubbles  since day one of setting up tank and can not remove it. Air Stone is powered by Fusion 500 air pump. I also do 25% pwc every 2 days while its cycling since nitrites are high.

why did you change the filter?

the marineland 200 was more than enough for that size tank,

you should have just left it alone till it was finished cycling

That filter was junk, 2 months running and tank never cycled, and the biowheel did nothing but cause microbubbles more than i have now. I put Fluval in last week and put the Marineland media in the canister to continue the cycling.

But i unplugged the Air Stone and all bubbles are gone. So something on the surface causing the microbubbles, as i skimmed with papertowel and bubbles started dissappearing. Thinking a thin film is forming on it.

i dont think the filter was the problem

If ya say so Hot Shot! If got nothing to add to the situation dont reply... See not that hard to do.

I would try skimming water from the top on a water change next time I have the same thing excess bacteria/protein could cause a skin on top of the water just a guess though, I can live with it for another week till my cycling is complete. Good thing though most impurities surface to the top and evapourate at the top, the bubbles popping helps to get rid of impurites as you will find scaling on the lid.

I did that last night, Skimmed the stop with siphon and papertowels. The bubbles did go away on surface for a hour or so but came right back. My other tanks use same tap water and cycled in a months time. Only thing i can think of is with the cycling happening and high nitrites is causing a protein type layer i have to keep up on.

Only way i got it to reduce bubbles, was i turned Air Stone down. I was going to add in a Fluval Surface Skimmer as only $10 or so, but some say it works great, and others says all it does is suck air into canister and makes it worse.
