Today I bought 2 female and one male mickey mouse platties and put them in my quarantine tank. I know its early days and they need to settle in, but they keep picking on eachother! They actively seek eachother out in the well planted tank to "peck" at eachother.

I have only had neons and guppies so far and we just seem to have one of those that wants to be boss all the time (Cruella) but these 3 seem to be intent on hurting eachother.

I really hope they settle down and get on. They are quite small and of slightly different shades of yellow and one is actually pink but don't think that should make a difference? Like I say, its early days but I wasn't quite prepared for all-out war!

Will I get peace in the tank soon? -_-

What I have done, if one is worse than the other. I put them in time out...I have a breeding net and I put the fish that is mean in there for 24 hours then return him to the tank...it really has worked for mine....platy and molly fish

Some times mating looks like fighting. But for some reason my Mickeys pair breed not sure if it is just my fish are if it this type of fish.

Thanks for the replies

It seems a little more peaceful this morning. No pecking eachother or anything.

Fishluver - I have tried putting my bossy guppy in a trap overnight on a few occasions but she reverts back to miss bossy boots almost straight away. Will have to try leaving her in there for longer then if you suggest 24 hours. She's due to give birth in the next week and so she's mega bossy at the moment. All those hormones raging round :grr: Will try again after she's had her fry as I don't want to stress her out and make her lose them.

Daz-Oz - if you think these platties pair, does that mean I have to get another one in the future so the other female doesn't get lonely? Haven't quite worked out which female he likes so maybe I'll be lucky and he'll get on with both.

I have 2 mickey mouse plattys which I think are both male and one is always hunting the other out every so often I put the bullying one in a breeding net to give the other one a break and as time goes on its happening less and less.

I have been trying to find out more on there mateing paterens. Not alot on the net about it, cept get a male and female and have fry blah blah. But with mine I had to take my other female out of the tank for over a week and just now is the male showing any atetion to the other female. When I got all of them both females was preggy and since i have had them my red one has had 3 broods of fry and the blue one has only had her first one. Which was in the bag on the way home from the LFS. But things are looking up for Miss Blue.

But if this means all Mickeys are this way I can't say can only say from my tank, and one other website I read it looks like they like to pair breed.
