Ok so my tank has been running a while now, last week I lost a platy, she lost all her colour then died and when I fished her out she had what looked like a large black spot inside her on her side, it may not be related but today I noticed that my usually attractive, spotty, mainly silver with black spots, dalmation molly, is now almost completely black, her top fin is now alot bigger and she looks like a boy, even though she aint??? has she mutated? is she ill? or has she done a Michael Jackson and just changed colour???

I posted this in emergencies originally but got no help, so please give me some advice......

i have found dalmation mollies to change colour, i had 3 nearly full white within a month were fully black

Its dam spooky!!! I dont even know if its a he or she anymore, when I originally bought them I had 1 male and 3 female, then the defo male died atleast a month ago, all 3 females had definate anal fins and not gonopodiums but this Michael Jackson molly seems to be one confused little character...........

maybe because you had another male it slowed down its developement, it often happens to avoid being bullied by the dominant male, so may just be a late developing male

You have perhaps figured out that Jacko's stem cells are infact that of a molly!
Man, thats unique.
Maybe explain his perculiar behaviour, too.
Jacko is infact a "fish out of water"

I had a Molly that as black from the dorsal fin to the tail and grayish in the front. She is now completely mustard yellow. It happens.

There have been claims that female swordtails and mollies can morph into males, but i think this may just be explained by late development rather than an actual mutation. Your fish could just still be growing.
