I have a featherfin syno - at least I think I have one. He hasn't been seen for weeks :-( . He lives in a castle in a 5 foot tank with a plec and some african cichlids. I know he's still alive coz every now and then I see a black tail move or one of his barbs stick out from the castle. Should I force him out of hiding or just let him be. I kinda worry that he's not eating or maybe even stuck there and don't really know what to do about it.

I wouldn't worry. Chances are he is eating well at night while you're asleep. That's when my pleco eats and once I thought he might not be eating because I never see him do so.
Don't force him out of hiding. That will only make him lose trust in you, and then he will never come out when you're near the tank. Give him a few months and he will venture out in the open during the day a few times.

I shouldn't worry gad. I have a King Tiger Plec L066 that I have never see unless I move his piece of wood. I ocassionally catch my other plec (L177) when I turn on the lights late at night and catch him by surprise but I never see the King Tiger. It up to you weather you make him come out to be sure or not. They are a nocturnal fish so why not feed some frozen or live foods before lights out and come back in an hour to check?
