I've had Canon Powershot SD500 for a while now, but am just starting to mess around with the manual modes. With my brackish tank right next to my computer, it's perfect for experimenting and uploading pictures real fast to see how good they are. Here are a few I took tonight that I especially liked.

The pictures look great!

I have a very simelar camera... what mode did you use? I'm still working out how to take better pictures.

It's in manual mode, set to digital macro mode, no flash, iso 200, normal exposure. I really don't know what all that means, I'm not good with cameras, but it certainly seems to take good pictures in that mode.

Macro Mode (the one with the flower icon) is perfect for taking close up shots (28" or less, usually). Some new digital cameras come with a "super macro" mode for even clearer closeup shots.

Way to discover things on your own, though  Excellent puffer shot. I love those little guys; they've got so much character.

:kewlpics:

Here's just a few more of the cutest little puffer you'll see today, guaranteed or your money back!

Aww, you can keep my money :D That's a really good looking setup for your puffer, too; he really stands out amongst the slatish (is that a word?) colored gravel.

ISO is the light sensitivity of the camera. The darker it is the higher you want the ISO and brighter light the lower you want the ISO. The higher the ISO though the more grainy the picture becomes.
Exposure is to do the the apature and shutter speed. You adjust these two to get the correct exposure in manual mode.

Ah, that makes sense, because in automatic mode my pictures were always darker and not bright enough, but when I upped the ISO in manual mode it produced much better looking pictures. I did notice the grain, but I guess that's just the compromise of a brighter looking picture, at least on this camera.

Brilliant! I never knew what ISO was :look:

Flumpus, your puffer is just darling

Oh ya, I meant to mention this... It looks like he's hunting something in the last couple pictures. He's really just looking for the perfect piece of crushed coral to grind his beak on. He enjoys snails, but I catch him grinding on the crushed coral just as much. I guess however he wants to do it is fine with me :)
