Hi. I have a newborn silver molly baby in my 10 gallon tank by himself, and he has developped this weird black outline around his fins. He seems pretty healthy, and there's no ammonia or nitrites in the tank. The nitrates are at 20ppm, and the ph at 7.5. Do you know what could be causing this black outlining around his fins? It doesn't look natural...

I will try to get pictures, but don't be suprised if I can't get any on here - I'm new to this forum, AND my camera sucks!

Thanks in advance for all the help! :fish:

I'm no expert on fish diseases, but it could be finrot. OR since its a livebearer fry its probably just coloration. He's probably just developing his colors, I wouldn't be worried :good:

Do you know who the father is?
Does it swim okay?
Will it eat?
is it lethargic?
any other fish have this?

Personally it sounds like nothing to worry about just yet.

Best of luck though rearing him.

My silver mollies tend to go a bit black at times. It odd.. I know when the girls are stressed thier colour goes grey/black and when they are about to have babies they tend to do the same thing.. My baby molly is from both silver parents yet she isnt pure silver yet.. She's about 4 weeks old now..

I am sorry to hear you lost your baby fish.. Its always sad..
