I did a large water change on my 20 gal. planted last thursday and now my crypts have started melting :-( . From what i've read i'm just suppose to remove the dying leaves is this correct?

remove all dying matter from your tank and i know some plants are sensivte to metals like copper or mabye it gets too much light.

I've also read that Crypts can be a bit sensitive to certain metals in your water. Personally I keep them and I do a large water change each week-50%-with no problems. Best thing is to check your other parameters are not fluctuating too much as they generally don't appreciate big changes in chemistry. My personal experience is that, like a lot of other so-called low light plants, they don't mind a lot of light (if you've seen their natural biotope you will often find them in full sunlight)-I keep mine under 4 VHO T5's. Personally I've found they respond very well to root supplements, even when planted in plant specific-substrates (in my case, Flourite and Deponit), so you might try that too (I use Ferka Rosetta on them), although I don't think Crpyt melt is often attributed to a lack of nutrients. In this case, I find they tend to stagnate and just gather algae rather than melt.

Good luck with them

Nick

Not uncommon with crypts. Remove the dead leaves but don't give up on the plant. It may take some time to recover but there is a fair chance that it eventually will.
