i have a few tropical community tanks that ive had running for a couple of years now, they have been fine. then all of a sudden i did a water change and lost 10 fish, most the next day and others gradually over the week. i thought it was a one off, until i did another water change more died. on my most reent water change i lost 15 fish, all healthy some of which i'd even bred. my lfs ( a very good one their advice has never lead me astray before) told me that it was the tap water and they are losing fish too. anyone elso from melbourne's s/e suburbs had this problem?????

I dont live in Melb. But in Adel. And a few yrs back, our local government decided too add the chemcal chloramine to our water to improve quaity. This just means u have to buy a special chlorine remover that says "removes chlorine AND chloramine".

Thats what i think anyways. Ring your local council involved with water in your area and ask for a report, ask if there has been any changes in their water, and see if you cant find out directly.

If it is chloramine, I know of a great water conditioner that removes it, chlorine, heavy metals and ammonia. It adds electrolytes and vitamin B... the stuff's called... *runs to fish cabinet* ..... Aquarium Science Extra Strength Complete Water Treatment and Conditioner. About $5 for a 50 mL bottle.

HTH.
