It's affecting only one of the gills. Been like this for quite some time: some weeks ago I did have some hint of nitrites, so I thought it was due to that, and hoped it would heel after NO[sub]2[/sub] would disappear, but I'm afraid it's actually worsening. Otherwise she's doing fine, and today even manage to jump first after the archers shot a fly, and got it! :good:

Water parameters appear OK:
NO[sub]3[/sub] 10 mg/l
NO[sub]2[/sub] 0 mg/l
pH 8.0
SG ~1.002 @ 25 C

Tank is 1 year old, while the 6 Rainbows arrived end of July.

Any idea? All the others appear to be fine.

Looks more... tumor/lymphocystis type of thing. Could just be a wound with a secondary infection (bacterial or fungal?) but i will look in the book at work as there is a picture identical to that one in it!

picture of a bosemani with a gill tumour:

Thanks MBOU, standing by.
And yes, the pic you posted is strikingly similar to what I see in my tank.

Hi maurizo,

I used to keep a few of these and on seperate occasions I had similar/same(?) problem.

I tried treating with antibiotics to little no affect even in isloation and stronger doses.

If you can isolation/hospital tank may not be a bad idea to try some treatment...

In mine the condition steadily got worse untill the fish had to be destroyed.

It was a shame because it really put me off keeping these beautiful adult fish.

I hope you have more luck than I....

I will check the book tomorrow but I'm pretty sure its a tumor or something along those lines, generally with the effect WWW said :(
