Hey guys i heard ou lot talk about melafix often, however i don't know what it does

It treats things such as fin rot, fungal infections. I use it and it has saved a few of my fish which has been hurt in some way, such as on of my keyholes have a large nip taken out of its tail (god knows by what).

Does not treat white spot, no.... I use protozin for that.

Think of Melafix as like savlon or germolene for fish. It's mainly used for external cuts and whatnot, but can also treat things like cloudy eyes. You can use it safely with other medications, and best of all, it smells amazing. I'm off to go and sniff mine for a bit.

As a direct treatment for whitespot it does as chrismr said squat diddly do, but its "theraputic(sp?) effects" can help. Personally other than a bit melafake (homemade melafix) I never use meds for whitespot, I just up my tank temp to 32degrees C for 3-7 days (untill all signs have gone plus a day or two extra). Most fish can deal with these temps for this period of time without any probs, only thing to watch is oxygen levels.

Well i was going to do that but my mum thinks it will kill the fish :/

they'll die if you dont do anything so you may aswell take the advice and copy Katchan :)
