Hello :) I'm using melafix to treat my Black Sailfin Molly because of a mouth infection. On the bottle it says this.

`We suggest removing the carbon while treating with any medication`

Does that mean I take out the little carbon filter? If I do take it out how will that affect my other fish? I got to repeat the process for 7 days

Other fish:

Two gold sailfin mollies
One black tetra
One clown loach

yes you need to take out the carbon in the filter. do you use a cartridge filter? all i did was take the cartridge out, turn it inside out and dump the carbon out, and then placed the cartridge back into the filter. when i was done with the treatment, i put carbon back into the cartridge. worked fine. i had a couple mollies with the same thing. i used melfix and pimafix together.

If you mean mouth fungus as in columnaris no melafix will do nothing, can you describe the mouth does it look fluffy in appearance.

Yes the carbon needs to be removed, as it will just remove any medication you put in.

When you are totally done treating, put the carbon back in the filter to help remove any meds still in the water.

it looks like cotton wool type fungus, just a little white thing on his mouth.

He's doing a shimmy dance which i heard means he's ill :/

Thanks for the carbon replies now I know to remove it!

will this slow down the cycle of the tank to take out the carbon filter?

55 gallons - I inherited the tank off a friend which came with a kissing fish, 1 black tetra and 2 clown loaches. I bought the mollies about 6 days ago :)

During the change move to my house the kissing fish and 1 clown died. The Mollies settled in great, even the black one, until the fungus thing

Well.. you probably should have cycled the tank before you put fish in it... or chosen hardier fish to cycle it in... that's probably why the molly is sick..

The meds could possibly mess up the cycle too.. I would just do water changes every few days to keep the water as clean as you can.
