I have a very sick firemouth with white cottony growth. This started with me rescuing him from the tank with very recent convict parents to my recently acquired 25 gal community tank. He hid for a day and a half and when I saw him again, he was quite cottony in the areas of his wounds.

Can I treat him with melafix and would it adversely affect the his healthy tankmates?

melafix will probably not do anything much for a fungus. You will need a fungus med for this and if possible isolate the fish before treating. If you cant then you will have treat the tank. Remove the carbon from the filter if you use it. HTH :)

Thanks for your help tstenback. Gotta go the the lfs today. I will have to treat the whole tank. Hope the tankmates will be ok.

My oscar had fungus all over his fins shortly after he got into a big fight and malachite green did very little for it. I added aquarium salt and in a couple of hours he cleared up. I would use a tank seperator to keep them from fighting and then add some salt if my fish could take it.

Thanks ger87410. I went to the lfs and they suggested pimafix and salt. I got the pimafix and have aquarium salt at home. I'll start treating when I get home from work.
