Hello everyone!

My 2 new keyholes developed finrot about a week ago. I haven't treated them as it was the bacterial kind and I didn't have a Quarantine tank. 1 is almost completely cured now thanks to daily water changes and gravel vacs. The other still has it, albeit not as serious as before. I have just managed to scrape enough money together now to get my own Quarantine tank but I want to ask this about antibacterial medications...

1- does Melafix kill the filter bacteria as well as the harmful stuff?

2- I bought an Australian brand "Rudducks aqua-serene MULTI-CURE" for the treatment of fungal and bacterial disorders. The active constituents are; 0.4g/L methylene blue 0.425g/L malachite green 2g/L acriflavine. Will this kill off the beneficial bacteria too?

Thanks in advance for any input you can give! (^.^)/

Not sure on Melafix but the 2nd one with the methylene blue in will kill good and bad bacteria. It will also stain the silicon in the tank blue. It can be used to treat pretty much anything that can.

anything which proclaims it will kill bacterial infections will basically kill any bacteria, good or bad, if the tanks mature though don't worry over it too much. I've treated with anti-bacs several times and not had a mini cycle or anything like that.

Ah coolies! Thanks for that! I thought as much but I just wanted to make sure. I'm glad I have a Quarantine tank now then to treat them! ^_^
