It says to take the carbon out of your filter before putting medication in. I dont think i have that?? theres two filters..a regular one and a bio filter.

is it okay to put medication in??

thanks!

yup, carbon will take out your meds as soon as you put them in. Carbon is black granuals usually in a tray. Black sponge is just that, black sponge. You can get black carbon pads too. Anyway, if nothing is black in your filter then you'll be ok :good:

What med are you using.

Wardleys Essentails brand. Its called Ick Away. it has malachite green as the active ingredient. i got it at walmart..the pet store wasnt open and i needed something ASAP so i got this

So you are treating for whitespot.
Parasite meds can stain things so it up to you.

Oh shoot. they should say that on the bottle! haha. because i have gravel and some fake plants and a plastic tree trunk thing in there and i just got my under gravel filter set up and i dont want the tube thingys comin up to get green.

Just remove the ornaments but the plants shouldn't get stained to much.
Its more the methylene blue med.

Good luck.
Don't forget to increase aeration in the tank.

oh yeah i forgot about that part. how do you do that?

im new to this

When you treat for whitespot you have to incease temp and aeration as the meds and high temp reduce 02 in the water.
So you turn filter flow up if you have an adjustable flow.
Or a airpump and airstone.

ooh alright. i turned the temp up a lil about an hour ago. ill have to turn it up a lil more in a min. i think i read somewhere that you can turn it up to like 85 degrees for ick.

well i did everything. my black molly [the one that i can see the white spots on] will either hide or will lay at the bottom of the tank on the gravel. shes breathin heavy now also. not sure if she will make it. the other fish arent breathing heavy
