Measuring Fish?

How do you measure fish? Is it just the body or fins too? Reason i ask is a lfs advertised a fish a certain size, drove down and it was not as described in terms of size(unless you includes the tail fin)

I think that tail is included, but I'm not 100% certain.

If the number is given as the Standard Length (SD) it is the body without the caudal fin. If it is TL (total length) it includes the caudal (tail) fin.

Some people measure without the tail and most measure with the tail. I normally put the fish size down and add (not including tail) after the size.
eg: 6cm (not including tail).
