When you see a max size listed for a fish somewhere on say... liveaquaria.com, or anywhere for that matter...

Take Synodontis multipunctatus for example... 5" (five inches).

Is that five inches including the tail? Or five inches up to the tail, tail not included.

I remember reading somewhere the tail wasn't included but i forget.

Most sizes in the trade are listed as Standard Length. this is the length from the tip of the snout to the caudal peduncle (start of the tail fin).

Beware though, for some sources will cite Total Length, which is tip of snout to tip of tail.

I know of no-one on this site who uses TL, everyone tends to stick to SL.
