ok, first off, i am getting a new tank, so don't worry. anyway, what i am gonna do is get a male black molly, a female silver molly and a female 24 karat molly. and then, i'm gonna let them do there thing, and hopefully this will happen.

black molly+silver molly= black silver molly
black molly+24 karat molly= black 24 karat molly
black 24 karat molly+black silver molly= black 24 karat silver molly.

hopefully, this is what the fish will look some what like this:

any objections? will this work

Good luck fingers crossed.

It may work. But it all depends on the genes. I wrote about this in the Livebearer Info in the top of the page, so you may want to read that. Some genes are going to be dominate, and some aren't. I believe Black is dominant over silver, etc.

Also, what are you planning on doing with all the excess fry in this? One extra tank isn't going to be enough, unless it's about 200 gallons.

Not to sound negative, it's a good idea, and I wish you the best of luck!

oh, they'll the other ones will make good snacks... the fish will like them, they hardly ever get live food. they'll enjoy it, i hope.

for the other fish. like my tiger barb, serpaes, bettas. those type of fish.

Buuuut...to really tell which ones are going to be good breeding stock for the next generation, you need to grow them up some. You need to see their coloring, and if they have any deformities or not. Once they get bigger...they'll be too big for the other fish to eat.

Yeah...selective breeding is tough. That's why most breeders have a fish room, with lots of tanks. Once the first two breed, you have to seperate the boys and girl fry from each other, to make sure they don't breed, and same with the next batches and then continue on breeding some from there to get to your next goal, if the fry are right...and of course, any female that is bred is going to have at least 7 batches. It's a lot of fry, especially with Mollies. You could have hundreds of fry in a matter of months. And it might take a while to get the right fish to breed with, so you could be raising many batches before you get a good one.

Just something to think about.

oh, u don't under stand, i'm going to save about ten from each batch. others can get eatin for all i care. (wow, that sounded a little harsh...)

well, after listening to i think black is dominate over silver (thank annastasia for telling me that) i think the plan has to change a bit. now it's gonna be a male 24 karat molly with a female black molly and a female silver molly.
