Hi have recently started up a new 400 litre tank in addition to my 190 litre and hav naturally had ammonia problems. the ammonia is currently at about 1.5 mg and the few fish that are in it seem okay . i have been adding ammonia remover but as my tests show , the ammonia remover has done buggar all. so i have put the external filter from my 190 litre into the 400 litre. the filter is well established with bacteria. will this cure my ammonia problem and how long can i expect it to take . many thanks !

Do plenty of water changes untill your readings are consistantly 0 on everything for 1 week, then your cycled.

Hi, if your 190ltr filter has been cycled then it will gobble up the ammonia in your 400ltr quite quickly especially if you have fewer fish in there.

Incidently, what is now filtering your 190ltr.?

Also, what ammonia remover are you using? If it is ammolock, LOOK AT THIS this converts dangerous ammonia to a less toxic level but still tests positive in a ammonia test

Was using interpet ammonia remover but filter now seems to be doing trick.. and my other tank had 2 filters originally so it is still being filtered . many thanks
