As long as you stick to a single species. I'd suggest yellow labs (labidochromis caeruleus), Rusty's (idotropheus sperengae) or pseudotropheus salousi. I believe p. demasoni would also work, but I'd check w/other people first. W/everything but the demasoni, you'll want to stick to about 5-6 fish, and you could possibly add a small pleco, bristlenose work well. Make sure you have plenty of rockwork to curb aggression as it will be higher in a small tank. Or you could try Lake Tang. shelldwellers, they are quite interesting as well.

Yeah id agree with the above but with the demasoni it iether none,1, or lots i.e over8 with 1 male.

I'd actually just go for Saulosi in a 30 gal as they stay quite small at about 3-4" fully grown. They are not too aggressive so you could probably get away with 2 males and 4 or 5 females. The males and females are complete opposite in colour so you'd have a nice looking tank even with just the single species.

Labs actually get quite big so 4 or 5 would probably be the max in that tank.

hmmmmmm, what about a 4ft by 18 inch footprint, with 12 inch height?

But about the 30 gallon, on the website with saulosi info, it says they breed like rabbits, and I will end up with an overcrowded aquarium

Also so do labs and you alreagdy own them. Fry raise thmselves anyway. Anout the 4ft that changes the story completly that opens you up to quite a few.

Most Mbuna will readily breed so that can always be an issue. You could do what i do and just keep single specimins of each species. Wouldn't reccommend that in a 30 gal but in a 4ft....maybe.

Yeah nice tank, definately more options with that. :)
