A couple of weeks ago i found a Mayfly larva in my aquarium.
Its a tropical 2ft aquarium i had 1 healthy female guppy and 1 healthy male guppy. I had bought a second female and she was healthy but the day after i got her i found this thing in my tank, i didn't know what it was at first but i looked at what i thought it could have been which was mayfly larva and it was. I fished it out of my tank and flushed it down the loo. Can someone tell me how it got there because i didn't think mayfly layed their eggs on fish but i'm starting to doubt my animal skills. ty in advance. :)

Do you mean the larva was on the fish.
Can you describe in more detail what you saw.

It was on the gravel and i will get a pic of one for u.

yup. thats a mayfly. did you get any new plants recently? or new fish. they hitchhike on the plants and sometimes in tank water (usually live on the bottom/hiding, but while trying to net a fish, sometimes gets stirred up into the water in the bag).
they generally eat small amphipods/copepods/isopods in the wild, although they may be harmful to very small fry in a tank.
id try and raise it ;) but i wouldnt let it go when it changes to an adult. they do not eat as adults anyway(so dont feel bad keeping it in a jar or something when it changes to an adult), just mate and die, and no chance of introducing any sort of invasive species. they are really neat to watch their metamorphosis.
cheers

Sorry but i already flushed it down the loo but the only thing i got was a fish so if it came in the water then i didnt realise till the next day.
Once again sorry but it went to it's grave young.
