hey all,

just got my lovely new rio180 tank today and i'll be getting the first dose of water into it tonight ready to start the fishless cycle. What i really want to know is.... is it best to declorinate the water when all the water is in the tank or bucket by bucket as i add it????

Also is it possible to add plants yet?? live ones not plastic

ow i'll get some pics up later also ;)

thanks

When you first fill up then you can dechlorinate once the tank is full with one big dose if you like, when you do future water changes dechlorinate in the bucket.

Can't help about plants though, mine all die :( only thing that will stay alive in my low light is java fern.

typically during the fishless cycling process you can get algae growing in the tank, so its advisable to keep the tank in the dark, mine is wrapped around with a towel as recommended by someone in a thread I read way back, and no brown algae yet =D
with plants they'd need light, so its likely you'd get algae, just read about it on another thread, refer to waterdrop's post here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=295210 post #17

Just to clarify on dechlorinator: you can either add it to the bucket (the full dose in the first bucket) or add it to the tank. It's a matter of preference as each works very well.

If you decide to add it directly to the tank, just dose the entire tank's volume before you add the water.

With regard to the algae build up which is common during cycling.... can you have snails in the tank????
