Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with the maximum size of Moonlight Gouramis (Trichogaster microlepsis)? I have one in the 5-6" range and was told it's a very large specimen for the species. Also, what is the technical term for a gourami's "tentacles"?

Thanks,

CQ

Moonlights can get up to eight inches, so you guy may still grow a bit. Also the feelers are just modified pectoral (spelling?) fins right? At least I think I heard that somewhere.

5-6" is certainly not large for a moonlight (though I'd say 8" is). They usualy max out at 7", with males typicaly growing to a slightly larger size than females. The 'tentacles' are, indeed modified pectoral (or ventral if you preffer) fins. I generaly reffer to them as ventral 'feelers' as that is their function. I've also seen them called 'antennae', 'barbels' and 'whiskers'. Ultimately, as long as you can get the point across, I'm sure the fish don't mind what we call them :p
