Hi, I've been trying to cycle a 7 gallon tank for a while now and it seem to be going very slowly, at first it the ammonia seemed to be going down, but now I'm not so sure. To speed it up a bit I thought I could take the media from my parents' goldfish tank, would this be ok? And also how would I go about doing this as surely the goldfish tank would suffer if I just remove the media?

Thanks :)

Ideally, you don't want to take all the filter media from the goldfish tank. Just a very small amount so that the goldfish don't suffer too much. Have you got fish in the tank your trying to cycle?

Thanks!
Ok, I got some of the goldfish media and put it in my filter, along with some of the filter from before. No fish, I'm doing a fishless cycle at the moment. There's ammonia in the tank at the moment about 2/3ppm, how long will this take to go down do you think? I'm hoping the mature media will help quite alot, it was only in transit for about 10 mins and was in tank water for the whole journey.

I would think it'll go down pretty quickly, btw have you tasting the water? Although its wierd usually you can taste whether the water is safe to use or not.I normally judge by the acidity and metalic qualitys.

I have a nice glass of warm aquarium water every night before I go to bed. I don't know if it's the water or knowing my fish are healthy but I sleep REALLY good.
