I have just recently bought a couple of kribs, 1 male and 1 female.
The female is rather fat, I am assuming she is pregnant. I have moved my male and female into my mating tank, and have supplied them with a little pot for a cave (the pot was bought from a lps)
This is what is happening at the moment.
The male and female swim together for a while, sometimes she will kind of bend herself in the middle, looks like she is showing off her very red belly to the male. She will then swim into the pot for a while. When she comes out of the pot the male will swim into it. I have been watching them for about half an hour and this continued for the duration of me watching them.
I have now switched the tank light off to give them some piece and quite.
Is this behaviour normal for mating kribs, I hope so I would love to have some little krib fry to show off.
Any advice on this subject would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Congrats, your going to have babies soon.

It sounds like your 2 have paied off.

But..... I've heard sometimes it takes a few trys for the pair to get it right.

My pair did the same as yours when I introduced the new male. You might also see them "shimmying" for each other.

Mine were hanging out in the back of their breeder tanks for a few days. Then one night I turned on the light for the plants, and I counted about 22 fry. That was about 3 weeks ago. I think I still have all of them. They are great parents.

And this was their first time together because I bought them at separate lfs's. So you never know.

Kribs are such great fish.

Here's a good link:

Thanks.
I think they had paired off when I got them as they were in the same tank together.
I assume the curling that she is doing is the shimmying. I have noticed him doing what I first thought to be chasing but he could just be nudging her.
I have got them in a seperate breeding tank but have put a target fish in with them so that when they start getting aggressive they don't turn on each other.
Thanks for the link, I have been reading another post on the same subject (perhaps I should have read through the topics before posting, I should have known that this topic would have been covered) and found the same link, you must have posted it on the post I was reading. This is a great site for Krib enthusiasts.
Wish me and my kribs luck!!!

Will let you all know how things progress.
They are sat together at the moment in the breeding tank just like they were at the pet store before I disturbed them to buy them. I didn't want to leave them there, they were the only 2 and they were in with a load of live bearers, I think they were guppies but I can't remember.
They look really happy together

I am really looking forward to seeing the babies (if everything goes well.) If everything goes well and babies appear I will try and get some pics.

Do they look after the babies all the way through from them being born to been able to being big enough not to be eaten by other fish? I assume they do.

Thanks again for all info on this subject. Watch the members aquarium pics for photos in the near future.
:D

the female will show off her belly and shimmy in front of the male to entice him to mate. you may even notice her keeping her fins closer to her body. this is thought that it makes the belly appear more rounder and more enticing to the male. you will especially notice that in a large group of females trying to get the attention of one lone male. they breed in pairs, so other females will vie for his attention.

I only have the 2 kribs. So the female is not competing against any others. The pet store only had these 2 and they looked like they had already paired up, they were swimming together but they had nowhere to go into like a pot.
They seem happy enough at the moment and she is doing her little dance and holding her fins close to her body, he keeps watching her and having a little nudge but they are staying close together.
Thanks for all the advice

This is exactly what she is doing. She keeps bending in the middle when he is in sight and kind of 'shivering', he has started to respond on odd occassions by doing a similar thing. I hope that in the not too distant future i will have some krib babies.
