Matching Water Temperature

And i have heard stuff in hot water tanks cant be good for the fish anyway.

Much of this depends on the storage system for your hot water. Different countries use different systems, what's common in one is unheard of in another. Loft storage tanks are unheard of in the U.S. I wouldn't use water from one of these in an aquarium.

What is common here is gas fired water heaters kept under mains pressure. This is fine for aquariums, I, as well as everyone I know has one & uses it for water changes. Everyone I know have multiple tanks & does larger water changes.

You can get faucet adapters to attach a hose to a faucet at most any hardware or diy store. I have a Y adapter with shutoffs attached to my faucet. I adjust the temp with the one side at the sink, shut it off & turn on the side to the hose. There is another shutoff at the end of the hose, I go into the fishroom & start filling.

If you go to the DIY section, I did a little "how to" on attaching the hose to the shower to turn bath taps into mixer taps. Works for us :)

I too try and match temps a close a possible, but am intrigued by people saying that they feed water in direct from the cold tap. When you feed the water in do you add the dechlorinator at the same time? or before/afterwards? Also do you dose for the tank volume or the volume you have replaced?

Please do give a response, as I can feel a reduction in bucket-hefting coming on! :D

I add dechlor before, during, or after, it doesn't make any difference. I use Prime, they say to dose for total tank volume, I dose based on water replaced, and weather conditions knowing how this affects my water supply.

mm.. i put the dechlorinator in, then add cold water directly from the tap. of course it's summer right now and the cold water is almost the same temperature as my goldie tank anyhow. The tropicals certainly don't mind either. the black neons and the bettas play in it. Even the cherry shrimp come out.

i fill up from the cold tap directly...

i change about 50 gallons of water every week, it would be insane to fill up buckets

i just add dechlorinator and then fill it up slowly with cold water. In the wionter, I mix in a little hot water because the water is so cold but in the summer it is fine, tanks drop 1 or 2 degrees overall...
