I've lost about 13 of my cherry shrimp over the past two days in my shrimp tank. All water stats are fine and no major temperature changes. Only chemicals added were water treatment when doing my weekly water change and the cold water was boiled in the kettle to ensure no metals from my boiler were present. There was no real symtoms apart from i noticed that my big pregnant females looked rather pale last night and the only surviving femal was the same thismorning. anyone any ideas what could be causing this? they have been living happily for about a month and had started to breed a few weeks back so assumed all was fine. gutted now that if the last femal dies i'll need to buy more. any help is apreciated
Thanks

Then the metal from the kettle are in the water, possibly even the dreaded copper.

I wouldn't thinkso as its the same methode and same amount of wather being changed that i've done since i got them and they've been doing really well with no casulties untill now and the large femals were even happy enought to be carrying eggs before they died.

Yeh I can only find three shrimp left now 2 larger males and one small possible female left, the lonely guppy fry doesn't seen affected by the ordeal. This is pretty much my last chance of having shrimp as the mrs says they creep her out so can't buy any more :( Hopefully they survive and then i can possibly source a few new ones and hope she doesnt notice

Water will pick up trace amounts of metal when it comes into contact with them, your water from the kettle will likely be contaminated with what ever was in the heating filament/metal filter gauze.

You could always distil it and use a condensation tube to collect clean fresh water haha. Apparently my water stats according to the water board before even coming through my house pipes for copper is..

<0.0170 mg Cu/l probably not at a harmful level although taking into the account will likely pick up some more on the actual pipeworks towards my house then through the house I could imagine that would increase a lot more.

How did you find that out? Did you contact your water company?
