Marisys 240

In a similar vein to my post on MH lighting, this MariSys 240 ((second link) was recommended to me by three seperate fish stores. It's an all in one unit with a wet and dry filter and air driven protein skimmer. The quoted flow rate is 6x turnover per hour in a 240L tank.

Any have any experience or feedback to offer up?

Well, it looks the part...

As you can see in this picture the top layer of the modular filter box contains wool. The bottom two contain activated carbon and bio balls. I've heard that wool can potentially filter out some beneficial organisms and may become a nitrate farm as time goes on.

If I were to remove the wool, can any other media be used in its place?

ive just brought one of these filters
£199.00 southern auqatics
in 2 days its cleared my 5ft tank loverly
some-one metioned about the cotton wool filter thaty should be replaced but never said with what if he/she coul let me know please.
im a newbe at this marine ,ive always done tropical so if anyone have any good sugestions id love to hear from you
and any idears on how to keep the water cold as ive done mine on fish from poole in dorset
