Hi all,
I've just been given a new aqua one 900 marine tank, now my problem is I'd rather keep discus or other cIchlids in it once I persuade the wife and kids lol if I win could I keep the filter and lights as it is? If not what would you recommend? Are undergravel filters still needed? Was going to use coral sand rather than gravel. Thanks mark

Is this the 176 litre tank? If so then it won't be big enough for discus or the normal cichlids like oscars, jack dempseys, green terror, Texas, jaguar and so on, it would be big enough for one or two dwarf cichlids though :) you could keep the filter and lights as they are but i (probably as well as most others on here) would recommend a good external filter. A tetratec 1200, fluval 305, fluval 405, there are loads. Look for 1 that turns over at least 2 or 3 times your tank volume per hour. Under gravel filters are not 'needed', I use an external all ponds solutions ef2000 (suitable for up to 1000 litres) external filter on my 260 litre and I'm getting a 450 litre today which il be using a fluval 405 filter. IMO sand is a better choice as it gives you more options to the fish you can have, such as corys plecs prefer sand. You could have corys or one of the smaller plecs like a bristlenose or orange spotted plec (which I have) in your tank if you were to have sand :)

I somehow feel were not getting through
