Hi,

Just setup a new Lake Malawi tank, I really like the blue marine light so got on for this new tank, just a quick question, when I turn on the light all the fish hide apart from the catfish, why is this? Is the light not sutible or represent night time?

It's not the blue light, it's just the fact that the light comes on instantly. Imagine how you'd feel if it suddenly went from pitch black to broad daylight 1st thing in the morning.

They'll soon get used to it don't worry.

I dont know about you but I pull the covers over my head when someone turns on the light to wake me up.

 Either that or shoot the person that turned the light on!

Mine do this as well.Within 30 seconds they are all out again.I put the marine on for about 30 minutes along with the day bulb, then turn off the day bulb. It`s not such a massive change. They will get used to it.

Yeah they do come out after a while but no where near as much as during the day, maybe im being fussy but I had tropical fish before this and they werent bothered by what light and at what time. Anyway thanks, small price to pay once the tanks all lit up in blue!

They should settle in soon enough and i bet they appear at feeding time. :hyper:

If you aren't already doing so, turning on the room lights for 10 minutes or so before you turn the tank lights on will help them get used to the light coming on.

I had that problem until they learned to associate the lights coming on with feeding, now they're all at the top of the tank as soon as the light goes on, or they see me reaching to turn it on, or I happen to walk by the tank, or they think I'm looking at the tank too closely.

I let the light on last night, went to the pub, came back later on in the night and they were all out as usual! I'll leave the room light as sugested until they get used to it coming on, looks like they do just get a shock

Thanks for the advise

Lack of eye lids will do that to you :X . Thay were just kicking it with their night vision going and "WHAM" blinded by 400 Watts of retna searing goodness. Imagine if High Pressure Sodiums lightbulbs didn't need to warm up first (who needs coffee).

Timers hooked up to the lights are good always comes on at the same time (unless there was a power outage) but it's a good fix. Or you can add a "moon light" and keep that on 24/7 it's LED so it's cool (as in no heat) and does not eat much in juice.
