Noticed my bio wheel is starting to slow a bit. Could it be because it’s finally starting to build up , or ?

I have a fix for that. I make up my own media for my marineland 200 filter. I removed the material off one of the plasic inserts media that came with the tank. Using a wire tie, I tied a filter sponge cut to proper size and also a properly cut piece of filter floss to the bare plastic insert. The floss should go against the plastic insert piece with the sponge behind it. (I buy it in a roll from Big Al's.) If you cut the floss so that it is about 1/2 inch higher than the plastic insert piece, then water will flow over it more forcefully and will spin the bio wheel rapidly. Worked for me. Every two weeks , I remove the sponge off of the insert and squeeze it out in tank water. I also replace the filter floss with new floss. Works great and saves money vs cost of oem cartridges. I've been using the same sponge for over 3 years now.

Oh man .. you lost me. I do have two filter cartridges in the filter itself. Should I maybe only run one ?

you must have the 350 model if you have two cartridges. You should continue to use two...just do what I described above to both cartridges....completely remove the material on the plastic cartridge and save the bare cartridge to make a frame on which you can attach the sponge and the floss. Works great fro me and no expensvie cartridges to buy.

If you only have one compartment, just one set of media should be used. If you have two separate compartments, then two sets of media should be used. ..No need for two in a single compartment though

Oh I didn’t know I couldn’t use two cartridges . I saw spots for two and used two thinking it would be better. The original one is ready to be trashed. So I’ll use one from now on.

Just make your own media as described in my first post. Make sure biowheel is not bent on any of the folds. Make sure slots that it sits in is clean.
