Marina Thermometer Question

I bought a new fish tank today to expand from my other one, a Marina 160 litre complete with 2 filters, one heater and the stand... link below.

Everything works fine, however, the heater has a dial for me to turn up the temperature, but doesn't show an image that lets me set the temperature... So I am basicallly turning up the heat but have no idea what I am setting it to. On my old tank I had a turner so I could change the temperature but there was a display that would let me see what I waa turning it up or down to, it was the Fish Box 40l tank, link below...

My boyfriend told me that when his mum used to have a fish tank their heater just heated to a standard temperature then switched off, then turned back on if the water went too cool. I personaly have never seen or had experience with these heaters so not sure if mine falls under that category.

Any help please?

Its most likely an Elite header, greyish top to it with red arrow on top by the dial and says + and -?

This is why you need a thermometer set it half way and give it half an hour, if not warm enough on the thermometer you know you need to turn it up a touch.

All heaters these days have a thermostat which is what you are describing, you set the temperature you want it to heat to, it heats up to that temperature then flicks off, comes back on again when the temperature drops.

Heaters didnt used to have this and Hagens (company that makes marina) fluval egdge heaters dont have it either and all they are good for is binning.
