Maracyn?

Although I followed the treatment directions, and it states that it will not harm my filter bacteria, I think by using Maracyn I may have killed off my filter.

Ammonia has been present, and it seems I may be cycling again.

Anyone have experience with Maracyn?

Maracyn only affects gram-positive bacteria and our nitrifiers are gram-negative so it shouldn't affect the filter at all.

On the other hand if you've actually got Maracyn2 which does affect gram-negative bacteria, that can affect a weak filter if it is overdosed but normally won't affect it at all.

Hmmm....I know its just regular Maracyn.

I wonder what can be causing this sudden ammonia spike?

Perhaps organic matter breaking down in the soil I used under the gravel?

I just repositioned some plants which disturbed the soil layer.
