Does anyone know where I can get some from in the UK or have any I could swap for some plants perhaps? I have loads and loads of spare valis!?. Im having a bit of a problem with BGA in certain areas. I seem to be keeping it under control but would like to get rid of it all together. Im reluctant to do a blackout as all the other plants are doing really well. I do have some eSHa PROTALON-707 treatment which is apparently effective against thousands of algae species but it doesnt actually say BGA on the box so again im relucant to use it if its not gonna work!

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks James

bga is a bacteria, thats why you use an antibacterial medication like maracyn to kill it, try the blackout, it costs nothing, and will not harm your fish or plants at all.

Thanks for the replies guys! Problem is with the blackout, the tank is in the front room where it will receive some sun light. Will this matter on do I need to cover the tank with something completely??

Thanks again

James

black bin bags, doubled up, a roll of tape and away you go. black out the whole tank and leave for 3 days without peeking. try to ignore the garbage bag package in your front room in the meantime, it's not pretty lol.

feed the fish a small pinch of flake before you do it but not a lot. the fish will be fine without food for the blackout period.

Cheers Jimboo, Just hope the discus dont get to upset!! I wouldnt want to be in a Blackout for three days sounds a little scary to me!! :D

your welcome. i've just done it on my rekord60, fish were fine. when you come out of blackout leave the lights off for a few hours for them to wake up though or you'll scare the hell out of them.

As mentioned above, I got mine from here. Delivery was quick, just over a week I think. The blackout worked for me at first, but it was back within a week, so I dosed with maracyn before it got out of hand again. So far so good, but I only stopped dosing 2 days ago!
