HI,

MY NAME IS TRACEY, JUST STARTED A 12G NANO 2MTHS AGO. HAVE
HAD SOME SUCCESS. HAVE 1 CLOWN, 1 GOBIE, CRABS, SNAIL, CLEANER
SHRIMP, SOME LIVE ROCK. BEEN GOING THROUGH SEVERAL DIFFERENT
ALGAE CYCLES. FIRST BROWN ALGAE, THEN GREEN ALGAE, THEN RED SLIME
ALGAE, NOW HAIR ALGAE. I TOOK THE ROCKS OUT AND SCRUBBED THEM, TODAY IT LOOKS LIKE THE BROWN ALGAE IS BACK. I HAVE BEEN TURNING OFF MY LIGHTS A COUPLE HRS DURING THE DAY, SO THEY'RE ON A TOTAL OF 10 HRS.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? MY CLOWN HAS ALSO BEEN HIDING SINCE I INTRODUCED THE GOBIE 2 DAYS AGO. THE GOBIE HIDES UNDER THE ROCK ALL THE TIME AND HASN'T EATEN MUCH IF ANY. I'M NOT EVEN SURE IF IT'S A GOBIE, IT'S LONG (2 INCHES), SKINNY, LIGHT, LIGHT GREEN WITH ORANGE STRIPES DOWN THE ENTIRE BODY. LFS SAID EXCELLENT HARDY FISH GOES WELL WITH CLOWN. I FORGOT WHAT IT IS CALLED. IS THIS NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR BOTH OF THEM? SHOULD I TURN DOWN THE TEMP (77) TO HELP GET RID OF THE ALGAE? RESPONSE MUCH APPRECIATED.

Hello tracy, and welcome :D
i think you'll be struggling with such a small tank IMHO. The algea will go, its just a process that all tanks go through, the reason ( and youve noticed) for the different algeas is that they use up the nutrients they need, then go, but are replaced by another, all of these will eventually go. But i would have the light off for more, untill it does start to die back, then gradually increase the time by 1/2 to 1 hour a week. The tank is abit too small for those fish, esp 2 so soon, they both require a min of 20 gals each. Have you a pic of the goby so it can be I.D'd?
If you list all your tank details, then we can help you more. ie. size, parameters, amount of L.R, what lights, whats for circulation, filtration and how long it has been set-up ect.
